“I need God’s Word each day because, well, being a foster parent is hard. I’ve stepped into the broken stories of broken people, and I find my heart cracked wide open by it all. From the daily mundane duties of paperwork and visits to the existential struggles of injustice and loss, I am weighed down by the heavy burdens of foster care. And I am in desperate, daily need of something to lift me from under its load.

His Word is what I need most—more than any training or strategy, more than help or rest or any other legitimate need that I legitimately have. I need the supernatural encouragement and teaching and guidance that only His Holy Word and Spirit can provide. God communicates with clarity and comfort and command for all of life through Scripture. Do you believe that He has something to say, specifically, to you as a foster parent? Something that can change the way you walk, think, and feel? I do, and I have experienced it for the ten years of my foster parenting journey. You won’t find the words foster care in the Bible, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t speak directly to us.”
